Miller Genuine Draft

I think it's finally safe for me to tell you about this,
in fact, one of the guys at the agency asked me
why I hadn't put the tracks up on my website yet.

so...

I recorded two songs for Miller Brewing Company.

They're going to be on the radio,
I think in Chicago, and California,
and some other markets.

So if you hear a song on the radio
in a commercial ad you think to yourself...
"hey.. that sounds a little like Nice Peter!"

it is.

The story is,
I was in the right place at
the right time.

Drinking Mojitos with
some ad agency guys,
when they told me about
an idea they were working
on for a Miller ad.

The basic idea is,
draft beer is good,
and MGD tastes like draft beer,
so you can drink draft beer, anywhere.

I said, through a haze of
mojitos and pot smoke,
"that would make a cool country song!"

"I.... had a draft beer in the dessert..."

ha ha ha,
yes.. it sure would.
maybe some day...

two days later,
I got an email.

"Hey... you remember that song
you were talking about? do you think
you could record a demo of that... today?"

I guess so, why not?

So I recorded a demo,
it got sent, it got played for the big wigs,
it got loved, it got submitted to Miller,
they bought it, asked for more, I recorded
another one, they bought that, and all
of the sudden I'm getting offered a lot of money
to go into a pro studio with a guy named Fish
playing the drums and an entire studio
full of professional musicians asking me
for direction.

holy shit.

it was quite a whirlwind.

We laid those two down,
and I wrote the next two,
and I got an agent, and
I joined a union, and I did
conference calls, ad it was crazy.

Oh... and I got a free tuna melt during the session,
I have to admit that was my favorite part.

It was all the same week that I won
that money for that song about legalizing marijuana.

So, long story short, I made a lot of money
singing songs about weed and beer.

funny.

In other news,
I've been getting together
with my friend Cory and writing
some new songs.

"Yo Madonna... how you like me now?"

that's the opening line from one of them.

Things are pretty good here in Los Angeles,
I sold my soul to Miller Beer, but I think
I got a pretty good deal.

and I drank a whole lot of MGD.

My dayjob still sucks,
I work at a restaurant,
and I'm not at liberty to say which one,
because I have a feeling over the next couple
weeks I'll have to start telling you horror stories.

Yesterday I got an angry phone call from my boss.

He asked if I closed the restaurant the night before.
real serious.

"yes... I did"

"well... you messed up. big!"

shit, I thought I left a door unlocked,
or some liquor was stolen, or a dog got in,
or the place was on fire.

I messed up big.

"the tea boxes were not full,
and neither was the balsamic vinegar!"

oh.

that's why you called me?
twice?

to tell me the herbal tea box
was not full enough for your liking?

are you kidding me?

whatever, it's a job, and
it's better than looking for a new job.

and until I start making beer commercials full time,
it will have to do.

I hope you're doing well,

-p
